Cedar Valley Rodeo

They'd tell stories of cowboys, volunteers, families, and thousands of memories!

In 1923, the first rodeo was held at the south end of Cedar Fort. Cars parked in a circle to make an arena. If a rider left the circle, he was on his own. Later, an arena was built out of old telegraph poles. Local farmers provided the cows and steers. Ferris Ault's wild horses were brought down from the mountains by local cowboys for the rodeo. Later, the men in town would round up wild horses in Rough Valley. This continued until the early 1970s. Now a stock contractor is hired to bring stock for the rodeo.

In 1953, James and Edna Strickland donated land, and a new arena was built northwest of town. This arena is where you are spectating from today from parked cars on the dirt terraces.
